Saanich Parks hosts the Radical Skateboard Camp at Gordon Head Recreation Centre again this year.

“It’s quite a popular one. Over 10 years we’ve been running these camps,” said Chris Filler, programmer with Saanich Parks.

The week long camps for 8 to 12 year olds happen every week this summer.

“They learn basic tricks and maneuvers on their skateboards,” said Filler. “The kids are getting skatepark etiquette. (Instructor Mike Davies) is able to negotiate those types of social relationships in the skatepark, which is important.”

The camps also feature girls-only options, as well as full days that include skimboarding instruction by locally renowned skimboarder Kira Byers.
