A Nelson teen is facing life-threatening injuries after riding his skateboard into the side of a city bus.
The 19-year-old was skating through the intersection of Ward Street and Vernon Street at top speed prior to the incident, the afternoon of Aug 18.
As he continued north on Ward Street, he didn’t notice the bus as it made a turn off Ward Street onto Lake Street.
The man struck the bus between the front and rear wheels and was dragged a short distance.
Nelson Fire and Ambulance crews came to the scene and worked feverishly to administer medical aid to the man. He was transported to the Kootenay Lake Hospital with severe internal injuries.
He will be flown to a hospital in Vancouver for care as soon as possible.
