The late afternoon meeting of Nelson’s Skateboard Park Committee has resulted in two recommendations going forward to city council on the future of that venue.
Council will decide between whether to put the park at the Rec Complex behind the Chamber of Commerce building or at Lakeside Park near the soccer fields and current site of the vehicle turnaround.
Both are not without consequence…the Rec Centre space would require further site studies and existing vehicle areas would need slight redesigns.
The recommendations are expected on the agenda at the next city council meeting, October 13th.

Nelson outdoor skate park on the agenda
It looks like there may finally be some movement on the 8 year process to build an outdoor skateboard park in Nelson.
Today is the final meeting of the skate park committee.
Nelson Youth Centre Manager Christine Schmidt is committee Chair and says with weeks of gathering information behind them she feels optimistic….
Today’s meeting will end with a recommendation to city council who will ultimately decide if and when the park can be built.
The park was originally to go at Lakeside Park, however the committee has looked at 8 possible sites.
The meeting is open to the public and goes from 1-3 in city council chambers.
