2010 KSS REVIEW

It was an amazing and beautiful day for the kick off of the Kootenay Skateboard Series 2010 held at Slocan Cities Tenacity Sk8 Park. The Sk8 competition was part of the the City celebrating it’s community’s assets, sponsored by Slocan and the McCreary Foundation. We could not of had a better day as weather gos and there was a good bit of magic in the air.

A good number of sign ups, boys and girls, young men and women in varying age categories got the event of to a flying start. The idea of the series is that, skaters by participating and showing up at each others municipal events, are then awarded points and are also given opportunity to compete for a 1st 2nd or 3rd place position. Prizes and trophies are to be awarded to the winners at the end of the series in Sept 2010, care of generous sponsorship from a number of local BC skateboard companies.

Ty Smith, the founder of BC skateboarding organization, who has a background in surf competitions and is an avid skateboarder himself, acted as the master of ceremony’s and along with a set of judges conducted the competition gracefully and professionally.

There is transport available to each of this summers events thanks to Andy at MTI (Mountain Transport Institute). Check the 2010 KSS tab for more details and also listen to Mountain FM for updates on the events.
