Light up the night

After the KSS 2010 completion had ended, as was planned organizers of the days events went about setting up a series of lighting around Tenacity for a night skate. It miraculously warmed up a few degrees at dark from a high pressure weather system that we were experiencing earlier in the day, that had been accompanied with a bit of wind chill factor…all good! It was beautiful to see this lovely design of a park with the lights on it. A incredible and totally energetic session commenced with many skaters from all over the Kootenay in attendance. Light Up the Night was a crowd pleaser and we hope we will be able to do more night sessions. A BIG THANKS is in order to Joanne Ellis and all the W.E.G. supervisors and Youth workers/Youth volunteers and community members for all their hard work and good vibes contributed.

2010 KSS REVIEW

It was an amazing and beautiful day for the kick off of the Kootenay Skateboard Series 2010 held at Slocan Cities Tenacity Sk8 Park. The Sk8 competition was part of the the City celebrating it’s community’s assets, sponsored by Slocan and the McCreary Foundation. We could not of had a better day as weather gos and there was a good bit of magic in the air.

A good number of sign ups, boys and girls, young men and women in varying age categories got the event of to a flying start. The idea of the series is that, skaters by participating and showing up at each others municipal events, are then awarded points and are also given opportunity to compete for a 1st 2nd or 3rd place position. Prizes and trophies are to be awarded to the winners at the end of the series in Sept 2010, care of generous sponsorship from a number of local BC skateboard companies.

Ty Smith, the founder of BC skateboarding organization, who has a background in surf competitions and is an avid skateboarder himself, acted as the master of ceremony’s and along with a set of judges conducted the competition gracefully and professionally.

There is transport available to each of this summers events thanks to Andy at MTI (Mountain Transport Institute). Check the 2010 KSS tab for more details and also listen to Mountain FM for updates on the events.
